Shri Kedarnath Trek: My Thrilling and Ecstatic Memories

Last Updated: November 27, 2023

Welcome to a captivating journey through the window of my thrilling memories during the Shri Kedarnath Trek. The views were so mesmerizing that I lost myself in the ecstasy. Curious to delve into this short memoir? Read on for the full story.

I have been captivated by the high snowy mountains nestled in the lap of the Himalayas since my childhood. It was my longing to imbibe the beauty of the magical holiest Ganga River and the musical sound of the waterfall from the mountains. Until my college days, I was far from this beauty due to my busy schedule of everyday life. After finishing college, my friends and I decided to go to the Kedarnath. We were planning to go there for a long time but couldn’t go.

In July 2017, we had determined to go to Kedarnath at any cost and packed our baggage. At around 10 o’clock in the night, we boarded a bus from Kashmiri Gate, Delhi, and reached Rishikesh, Uttarakhand at 4 A.M.

The bus to Guptkashi was at 6:00 A.M., and we were feeling catnap. We sipped a hot cup of tea in the station to relieve our snooze. At 6 o’clock, we boarded the bus. Crossing the Rishikesh, the fascinated scenes were appearing. There were green and huge mountains above me and the purest Ganga River beneath me. The drops of water were shining like pearls. A light breeze was touching my cheek, and my fickle mind was repeatedly wishing to stop those captivated moments. I wanted to get down from the bus and desired to imbibe this beauty. The entire road was full of the natural beauty.

One of my friends lived in Augustyamuni, so we got down in Augustyamuni and planned to stay there at night. Augustyamuni is a small town surrounded by beautiful mountains. My friend’s abode was on the bank of Mandakini River. The magnetized sound of the river was creating music. The reverberation of that tune is still in my heart. In the evening, we sat for hours on the banks of river. The waves of river were touching my feet and filling me with ecstasy. It removed all tiredness due to the long journey.

The next morning, at 5 o’clock, we left home for Shri Kedarnath. On reaching Sonprayag, it started raining cats and dogs. We caught a local taxi from here to go to Gaurikund and arrived at Gaurikund in half an hour. The rain had not stopped yet, so we bought raincoats and started walking on foot. The distance from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is about 16 kilometers.

The Kedarnath Trek passes through the stunning hills. The beauty of that heavenly path are still in my heart. I am unable to express this captivating beauty. I think one can only imbibe this. The view of the springs and mountains was so beautiful that I had forgotten all my fatigue. How sweet and cold the pure water of the waterfalls was! I had never drunk that much sweet water in my life. Whenever we were feeling tired, the sip of tea and the beauty of the mountains were detaching us from exhaustion.

It was almost 7:00 P.M., and the temple was not far away. Our hearts were delighted as soon as we could see the temple from a distance. First, we booked a room in the hotel. After taking a bath, we visited the temple. It was shining with light, and we had seen Bhole Baba. After Darshana (visit), we came to the hotel, ate, and slept.

The next morning, after taking a bath, we went to have a glimpse of the temple. It was 8:00 o’clock. What a beautiful sight was that! Due to rain, it was less crowded. The temple was shining in the sunlight, and the mountains were covered with snow. We visited Bhole Baba, and after that, we went to see Bhairav Baba.

The temple of Bhairav Baba is on the top. We reached there after half an hour and sat there for many hours. What a wonderful and delightful moment was that! That beauty of nature had captivated me. I had never seen or felt such beauty. After some time, we came to our room and packed our luggage. Despite unwillingness, we took our steps forward to return home.
